Balance Leaning Shelf - Natural

Katy Wallace

Katy Wallace

A simple and functional plywood shelf that leans against a wall for stability

Cut from a rectangle of material, the shelves, once slotted in place leave the voids they have been cut from for books and objects.

Gravity rests the shelves to a level position in each slot, and once pushed through to contact the wall and wedged in place, the shelves act as a brace to stop the unit flexing.

Dimensions are for the assembled shelf.

Katy Wallace is a three dimensional designer, working primarily in furniture. Her experience crosses the spectrum of product, furniture, interior, lighting, and exhibition design.

She has taught these skills at Unitec and AUT University in Auckland for several years and has been a board member for Objectspace and an assessor for Creative New Zealand representing these disciplines.
She is interested in work that displays authenticity in terms of ‘green values’ in furniture making, and is always on the search for thrown out gems and sustainable materials to create new works with.

In 2007 she completed a Masters degree in Art and Design at AUT, focusing on a recyclable cardboard range of furniture for flatters which could arrive through the post, fold out to create a home, then be easily recycled when the flatter moved on.
