Marc Zuckerman moved to Hokitika, in the South Islands in 1971, where he originally worked as an exploration geologist. He fell in love with the West Coast and purchased land 20 kilometres east of Hokitika, and built his own home, including windows doors and cabinets.

In the process of designing and building his home Marc became consumed by the desire to be involved in woodwork and design. He says’ the peacefulness of our environment inspires simplicity in my work.’
Over the last thirty years, as a self taught woodworker, his work has ranged from furniture to kitchen utensils with a continuous progression of original designs.

His designs are considered minimalist modern. Zuckerman uses wood that is sourced from recycled waste, ancient buried logs or sustainably managed timber. His works are made from New Zealand native timbers such as kauri, Rimu and Rewarewa.
