Coral 800 Bamboo Natural

David Trubridge

DESIGNER PROFILE

David Trubridge

Details:

David has always loved the corals in the sea, and given nature is the inspiration behind his design philosophy. Coral has since become a design icon, listed in design magazines and books around the world and referred to as a future design classic.

Like most of David’s lights, its hollow form reduces the appearance of its absolute size, allowing the eye to see through the light. The beautiful, and often underestimated, effect that this design has, are the shadows thrown onto the walls due to the fine, geometric forms of the Coral light.

David Trubridge is a visionary. Unlike most of us he can translate those visions into something functional.

David's sculptural wooden furniture and lighting is a new world mix of old world skills and craftsmanship, sustainability of materials and purity combined with some high-tech genius.

All of David's pieces are immediately evident in their purpose, but within the seeming economy of material and fluid shapes resides their true functionality.
David's Coral Lamp combines repeat patterned CNC cut plywood with a hint of Escher to produce a geometrically pleasing form, both pure in design and practical in purpose.

My ideas come from the wild places, edges of turbulence and renewal, where seas break on beaches and headlands, where land and air meet on mountain ridges.

I make forms of elemental simplicity, as the erosion of air and water on wood
and stone, forms that speak of humanities survival on earth, of lifes fragility and dependence, of comfort in the ways of the past that have succoured us and optimism for a sustainable and enriching future.
