Isaac Katzoff is a glassblower based in Auckland. He is inspired by the 20th century glass manufactures such as Stuben, Kosta and Venni.
In his design process Katzoff combines his knowledge of past forms with contemporary function. He states,"I am inspired by craft. The history of knowledge that any craft represents is an easily undervalued and unrecognised story amongst the technologically advanced age that we live in."
Katzoff is originally from the United States, and he completed a Bachelor of fine Arts at the Southern Illinois University in 2001. He then went on to tutor at the University of California in San Diego, be fore moving to New Zealand.
He first worked for Gaffer Glass and now shares his Auckland studio with established glass artists Peter Viesnik and Luke Jaomb, where he continues to develop his own practice.
Isaac recently won the Ann Robinson Glass Award in 2010 and has exhibited his work both in New Zealand and the United States.
