essenze @ home - Outside In

Us New Zealander's love the outdoors, and migrate outside as often as possible - even during coolest times of year. And, whilst it may be a few months before we are dining alfresco again, (though clearly here at essenze we are dreaming about it already!) we take a look at WSC chairs, a design that sits very well both indoors or out.

The WSC chair, by Well Groomed Fox, was designed in 'response to the inherent use duality of furniture - particularly seating - in New Zealand culture. Sofas, chairs, stools and armchairs often migrate between the interior and exterior spaces of the home through the seasons, though the materiality and aesthetic quality of the pieces are often unsuitable for both indoor and outdoor use. The WSC addresses this through the creation of a simple stacking wire framed chair - that is created specifically to address the concerns of both indoor and outdoor use through material, functional and aesthetic considerations. The WSC is finished in a corrosion resistant powder coat or is galvanised for outdoor use, these finishes are also suitable for use indoors.

The unique split back rest means the WSC is extraordinarily comfortable, moving and flexing with the movements of the body. The design is visual light, but has a reassuring weight combined with minimal surface area to prevent it toppling in strong wind gusts. Making the WSC suitable for both indoor use with additional covers and outdoor use without.

A perfect match with the WSC chairs is the industrial styled Trestle table, by F3 Design. The designers have responded to similar design concerns, adapting the materials so that is suitable for use outside. ‘Trestle’ table is sleek, simple and beautiful while retaining a rustic feel that is in keeping with the nature of Macrocarpa timber . The table top seems to float elegantly above it’s industrial legs giving ‘trestle’ a lightweight, balanced feel. This combination results in a sophisticated cohesion of materials, surfaces and colour. When weathered, it’s top will become a beautiful shimmery silver.
