Julie Collis's work spans a number of mediums from metal to fabric and includes jewellery making and ceramics. A constant theme is an interest in the methods and media of textiles, especially the woven, printed and carved patterns of the Pacific region.
Recent work continues this theme, with the patterns derived in fabrics and weaving featuring directly on glass and ceramic surfaces. In working with glass, Julie enjoys its wonderful translucence, the exactness of the transfer pattern and the softness of the very slightly melted glass.
Julie obtained a Fine Arts degree in Design and Teachers Diploma in Auckland in the 1970's, and has taught Art & Design for some years. |
